  1. Lunar Lighting

    Posted 14 Jun 2010

What do people think of these?

    Are they any good?

My main lighting is on from 9am - 7pm.

    Was looking at these http://www.virtualvi...m_medium=shcomp
  2. Sun Coral - What To Do....

    Posted 4 Jun 2010

A friend of mine who runs a local marine shop was getting rid os some frags cheap due to his frag tank leaking. So I asked him to box up some softies for me; went and collected them 2 days ago and in one of the bags attached to the back of a zoa frag I found a small sun coral colony.

I have been waiting for it to come out so I can feed it but so far no show! I have tried putting a cut pop bottle over it and squirting in some mysis in to try and encourage it.

Any other suggestions would be most welcome!
  3. Light Bulbs - Does It Matter What Way Round?

    Posted 1 Jun 2010

Ok so I currently have 2 x 18W PL bulbs each of which has one half blue and the other white. I have these in the hood with the blue section over the front of the tank. I was told by the guy at the LFS that I should turn them around so the white section is at the front. Does it really make a difference?

The reason we were talking abt the lights was I am getting green/brown algae on my substrate and after reducing the lighting to 8 hrs was still having the problem.
  4. Grrrr - Fish Store

    Posted 25 May 2010

I went into my local FS yesterday as I wanted a piece of LR to create a cave; anyway I digress... I was speaking to one of the staff and he was telling me that they had been having an issue getting their delivery because of the planes being grounded and how they had to turn down several deliveries due to the rock being left in the boxes at airports for so long. I was asking about their new stock and he said "we have some really nice pieces of Fiji LR". So off I went to take a look. But to my surprise all the rock in the tank looked like ocean rock (very bleached and no coralline algae at all) I asked why this was and was told that it was just from being in a box and that given a few day the colour would come back! Yeah right!

To top it all off I noticed a piece with what looked like paper imbedded in it I asked if I could look closer at this bit and yes it was news-print. I just had to say it and the guy did not look too impressed but I think it had to be said... "I knew marine fish where clever but did not realise they could read as well" He reason for this was that the paper must have gotten stuck in the reef…

Sufficed to say I did not buy any of this "beautiful Fiji LR"
  5. Micro Bubbles From Skimmer

    Posted 12 May 2010

How long does it take for a skimmer to bed in? Started using my skimmer this morning and my tank is full of micro bubbles. Heard this is normal but was not sure how long this will go on for. I have not had any skimmate produced either but again I assume this is normal.
