Salifert Ammonia Test Kit

Salifert test kits are about the best you can buy... Salifert are well known in our hobby as being accurate and well priced...

Lots of tests in a box and straight forward to use... You couldn't ask for a better test kit... One slight downside is that you have to mind the date on the pack... Normally it should last for a couple of years but do check when you pick up the box at your LFS or buy online!

The ammonia test kit has 50 tests in the box... Not bad but I'd like to see at least a years worth of weekly testing for those who are running breeding set ups or the like and flush and clean out tanks and filter systems on a regular basis etc.

The phosphate test kit has 60 tests in the box... That works out very well priced if you check (as we probably should) your levels once a week...

Aqua Medic Turboflotor 1000 Multi Sl

This is one of the classics in the world of skimmers... A long term favourite with many and in my case an introduction to skimming... First off I should point out that my 1000sl is modified slightly on the intake pipe and using a non standard pump... Having said that the mods are very minor and have been done for good reasons...

This skimmer can be used in a sump or as a hang on the back style unit... At around 22" tall it's not overly big... Fitting into most under tank sumps with ease... Probably ok for anything up to 700ltr although the name gives it away as to what Aqua Medic think it can do!

In my case the skimmer works well and although adjustment is done away from the skimmer due to the set up I'm using the results are just fine... Often available second hand via online auction sites I would happily recommend one of these over the likes of TMC etc as a better built unit...

Not as good as a similar sized deltec or modern day cone skimmer but certainly worth anyone's second look...

Interpet Fishbox 48

Hmm this was my first tropical freshwater tank i ever bought.
The reason im giving it 9 out of 10 is because this item came with everything i needed to start off a filter, heater you name it . But unfortunatly the filter kept coming off but it was soon updated and the lid when closed some times caught the cables . But all in all this little 48 liter was a very good little space filler.

The reason i do not recommend it, is because i believe bigger is better!!!!

Koralia Evolution

The Koralia Evolution range of pumps are simple and effective... After a lot of research I opted for these pumps because they are well priced, reliable and easy to use....

They're compact and stylish and use very little power compared to many others! The magnet-suction cup design is simple yet very effective... My 2 year old lad can't move them once fixed in place but are easy enough for an adult to move if required... A big plus in my house! Quiet yet powerful and cheap to run!

Upgrades are planned in the future with Hydor's controller are planned. Cheap and upgradable... can't be beaten in this price range!

Epo Putty

Epo Putty isn't only better than other Epoxy marine safe products... Its also amazingly versatile! It's also at least the same price or even cheaper!

Excellent workability and and looks good... No strong odours, no clouds in your tank, no oxygen loss whilst curing... Epo Putty adheres to most surfaces and will not sag, run or drip. It works on concrete, brick, metal, plastics, wood, fibreglass, painted surfaces and even under water.... I've used it on lots of area's including pipework and on my live rock...

This beats the competition hands down... No questions asked...

Tunze 220.54 Cleaning Magnet

Tunze has always been a name that puts quality and solid build thoughts in mind... The Tunze 220.54 Cleaning magnet is no exception...

It is well packaged, line checked with an operator number and comes with clear instructions. One of the first things you'll note is the warning about not letting the magnets come together and for good reason... You'll probably loose the tip of your finger and you'll need a jack hammer to get them apart again!

Because of the above the magnet cleans well... It also comes with a thin yet strong cord to tie on to help you retrieve the magnet should you drop it on the sand bed... No Zorro scratches here! It's a nice dark colour so can be hidden away in a shady area if you have any...

Slight down sides... It doesn't float... However this isn't the end of the world and means you take a little more care when your moving the magnet around...

Well built... VERY strong magnet suitable for up to 16mm glass and I'm sure it'll keep me from having to scrape the glass with a razor blade too often!

Dr Tims One & Only

I won this product from Marine Habitat Magazine (one of our sponsors) and before using it I did my research... The simple result is that it works!

It has no odour and dissipates quickly leaving no visual sign in your tank that its been added... Subsequent testing has resulted in little to no nasties in the water so I'd say its worked a treat for me!

Finally... A product that actually does speed up the marine tank cycle!

I'll still be leaving my tank for a while though... Still a little old school in that regard...

Devil Sp3

This is an affordable, quiet and very efficient dedicated skimmer pump. Simple and robustly built and a direct replacement for more expensive and well known skimmer pumps fitted to the Deltec AP series and the like.

It can push up to 700ltr an hour of air and it whips it to a cream using a solidly built pin wheel (not a flimsy and easily clogged needle wheel!)...

You won't believe how much this pump can produce! I bought it as a cheap alternative to an aqua medic 2500 needle wheel pump ... which I'm really glad I did! I have seen the AM2500 at work and it appears to produce less than half the output... Proven by having to split the flow from the pump, since its far to powerful for my Aquamedic Multi SL...

This pump isn't just quiet, cheap to run, powerful and cheap to buy ... its also in a stunning shade of red... Ferrari red if I had to guess... bored of that black or beige pump in your sump? Then then Devil SP3 is the pump for you...

There is one downside... If you don't buy it to replace the pin wheel pump on your deltec or 4 foot AM then its too powerful... It will literally blow the lid off your skimmer!

I'm now very interested in the skimmers that are built around these pumps... I bet they skim like no tomorrow!

i recommend this product as it tell you if the levels in your tank ok by displaying ur results into a box which is either green which is good and red box which means it needs looking at,also you can keep an eye on ur water levels anywhere you go as i can be sent to your phone. This device also tell you a chart for you light and also tells you what your temp is in the.
the only bad side to it is that you have to replace the slide every month and you got to search for the instrucions online which are also hard to find if you do not know what you are looking for, another bad this is that you need to sock the slide for 24 hours in your tank water.

Bought these pumps about a year ago and have to say they are brilliant, they move 20,000lph of water, run very quietly (well mine do) come with magnet mounts so there easy to move about, flow is wide and dispersed so corals aren't being bashed with to much flow.

The only drawback for me is they are rather large and it it makes them difficult to hide in smaller aquariums
