My tank uses only natural oxidising,LEDs for lighting and algae for total nutrient control and production of 90 percent of needed trace elements,no skimmers, nothing else and one power head runs it all.

Its just a small tank but does me.

I have changed a couple of fish due to a silly mistake in collecting a clarkii and putting it in the tank, its gone now and all is good.

This is the tank as of the 13th of October 2011

stunning :)

could you post up an aquarium diary with a full equipment list and possibly some more pictures , especially of the engine / equip side of things.

The latest tank and system build.
All life in this tank is from our aandtsociety.org.au collecting trips, except the ocelaris.

This system will be able to sustain 3 to 5 aquariums and is gravity fed using one 1800-litre power head to run every thing.
I use remote bio filtering; I never rely on the live rock for the bio media or any substrates.

Tests carried out by our club on live rock and under gravel filtration found near no bacteria running the aquariums matured biological filtration, it was found that the old termed creatures, protozoa-protozoan now called protists, these were present in abundance and these either by symbiotic life styles or individuals, oxidise nearly all of the nitrite cycle, these run virtually all of the nitrite to nitrate in a matured aquarium it was found!

Since the first time this was found out i have never based a marine aquarium filter on starting the bacteria and i have a matured filter ready for all tank life in most times, ten days to maturity!

The system is designed to achieve firstly, as the tank water exits out of the rear of the aquarium to a chamber and over flow, it has a barrier of 100 micron Dacron.
The next area is the first part of the NWMS and does away with the need for a skimmer and converts all waste to trace elements!
The water as it leaves the NWMS has to pass through more fine Dacron before it enters into the nitrite and nitrate oxidising sections and gase exchange area, which is cascaded waters!

From both lines the water is caught in the last tub, the sump, where there is a 1,800 lire and hour power head where no detritus of any kind can get to it and prematurely wear out the impeller, plus micro bubbles are deffused.

This is below every thing and from there the water is returned to the tank to a circulatory spray bar creating a rolling motion cleaning and protecting corals from each other and directing waters to the exit.

No substrates so near no chance of the protist white spot any where!

But that's just me!

Front view of finished,un matured tank with cree xr-e 3 watt high out put blue and white LEDs over it.

All corals, shell grit, rollers in tank and in the system are boiled and bleached to get rid of all forms of life in and on it to start fresh for a quicker and pest free bio start.

I seed the systems i build with protist rich shell grit from my 14 year old wet section that i use for collected species and also leavehanging  in the tank a stocking bag of marinara mix for 6 to 10 days for a robust ammonia injection with all types of ammonias from algae and fish meatsfor all types of protists to flourish on.

This is the tank at July 16 as the nitrites, after peaking quite high as they should, have dropped back to zero.

From rectangular down pipes I made my own LED light fittings for photosynthetic life forms.

This is the waste converting and some oxidising part of the NWMS.

This is the front of the tank at night, fish don’t sleep so the LED lighting for the algae-sponge part of the NWMS is on when the tank lights are off.
They stress far less that way as they would normally remain terrified in most peoples tanks as the wait for lights on and the co2 from lights out,is always accounted for to allow constant KH and PH.

The tank at each month from maturing.

This is the tank as of 16 of August.

This is the tank as of the 13th of October 2011

This is the tank as off the 6th of November 2011.
This is two days after i have trimed the xenia and standard soft corals that were getting a bit out of hand.

There is so much more to this in relaition to fail safes over the last 30 plus years learnt, but the whole thread to copy over, your forum refuses that many pics.
This style of (total) bio filtration-NWMS-you can build one to fit under the tank in cabinet, but i wanted it to run more than just one tank off it!!
